You’ve seen me write a lot about community here lately.  It’s because I think,feel, believe with every fiber of my being and intuition that community is the only answer to whatever is coming our way.

And, it makes perfect sense because it’s the next stage of our evolution.  We are smarter, more adept, more technologically advanced than we have ever been before.  The next frontier is for us to learn how to get along, co-exist, and come together.

The truth is, we suck at community. At least most of us.

We fight.  We blame and shame.  We feel bad.  We project our stuff on others.  We don’t communicate our feelings.  We feel resentful and put upon.  We blame some more. We try to control everyone around us.   Sometimes we even reject our family members when we cannot control them.

We simply cannot get along.

You may be seeing this in your business (which is often the first time we are given the chance to be in community) or in your personal life (constantly fighting with friends, family members, siblings?).  I have struggled with this quite a lot myself, constantly being surprised when it comes up because I feel as if I’ve done so much work on this already. But, if I’m going to teach it, then I have to bring it all up and heal it, so I can share it with others.  It really is the case that our wound is our greatest blessing to share.

Alas, it’s time for a next level evolution for many of us and we keep revisiting those same old issues again and again until they are completely integrated.

If you are an entrepreneur, you have MANY opportunities to integrate your evolution and build community.  Entrepreneurship has been my practice field for years.

If you are doing business well, you build a community with your prospects.

You build a community with your team members  (for a great example of community building via business, read Tony Hsieh’s book Delivering Happiness it’s an inspiring/inspired example we can all learn from).

And of course, you build a community with your clients.  Here’s one way we do that: This is a community for people using our Money Map in their business.

Building a community is the achilles heel for many entrepreneurs. We simply have not been taught to do it.

There are a lot of factors to making a community work.

First and foremost – before anything else – is that we learn to take personal responsibility for ourselves.  This is not something that was taught to most of us as we grew up because our parents had no idea how to do it and could not model it.

They blamed, they shamed, they guilted, they fought and lied and punished, even when they had no idea they were doing that.  Many of us do the exact same thing now.

It’s our greatest opportunity for evolution.  Right here, right now.

We can learn to communicate, tell the truth, get along and be in community with each other.

It begins with learning to be sovereign, to take responsibility and as my friend Hiro Boga says, learn to Rule Your World.
